A crankshaft thrust washer, also known as a thrust bearing or thrust plate, is a component used in internal combustion engines to control the movement of the crankshaft along the engine's axial direction.
The primary function of the crankshaft thrust washer is to absorb the axial thrust created by the reciprocating motion of the pistons and connecting rods. As the pistons move up and down in the cylinders, they generate both compression and combustion forces that act on the connecting rods. These forces can cause the crankshaft to move back and forth along its axis, which, if left unchecked, could lead to excessive wear and damage to the engine.
